A Facebook post from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office asking for help identifying a breaking-and-entering suspect has led to an arrest.

Authorities posted photos to the social media site on June 22 after receiving reports of multiple break-ins in Pittsboro. Surveillance video captured images of the suspect and vehicle after the individual had allegedly stolen cash from a safe at one location on June 20.

Law enforcement then shared those photos on Facebook, leading some residents to recognize the suspect and share that information with deputies, according to a release.

“Our deputies believe in working closely with the community to solve crimes,” Chatham County Sheriff Mike Roberson said in the release. “It is important to us that residents have a voice and feel comfortable sharing information with us. By joining together, we are able to fight crime more effectively and have a greater impact.”

The social media tips led to the identification and arrest of 40-year-old Kenneth Marvell Reaves Jr., of Pittsboro. Reaves has been charged with two counts of felony breaking and entering, felony larceny, felony safecracking and injury to personal property. He was given a $10,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court on Wednesday, July 11.
