Chatham County authorities have arrested one individual and are searching for a second suspect after shots were fired after what was believed to be a drug deal earlier this year.

Officials said in a release on Tuesday that deputies were dispatched to Moody Loop Road in Siler City in February in response to a report of shots being fired.

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said that investigators determined the incident started with an argument over a marijuana purchase. “Investigators believe two suspects in a vehicle chased victims in a second vehicle up and down Moody Loop Road while firing gunshots,” according to the release.

Authorities said a residence was struck during the gunfire but no injuries were reported.

Two individuals – 23-year-old Jonathan Maxie Lamonds III, of Siler City, and 25-year-old Rodney Kyle Lopossay, of Bear Creek – were charged in the incident.

Lopossay was arrested on June 28, according to law enforcement, and charged with two felony counts of assault with deadly weapon with intent to kill, two felony counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling or vehicle and injury to real property.

Authorities are still looking for Lamonds who, in addition to the above charges against Lopossay, is also facing a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon, communicating threats and assault on a female.

Lopossay is being held under a $92,000 secured bond, as of last update. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Lamonds is asked to contact the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office at (919) 542-2911.
