Local law enforcement and first responders dispatched to northeastern Chatham County on Friday night to investigate reports of a body found in the water of Jordan Lake.
A release from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said sheriff’s deputies responded to Jordan Lake near the North Carolina Highway 751 bridge — which is just south of Durham County — around 7 p.m. on Friday. No details were shared in the release about who found the body or its condition.
While the death investigation is ongoing, the sheriff’s office said there is no known or obvious threat to public safety stemming from the case. No additional information is being made public as of Saturday morning.
Lacking further details, the body recovery is the first reported at Jordan Lake this calendar year. The latest publicly reported came in Sept. 2025, when law enforcement recovered the body of a community member believed to be experiencing a mental health crisis. It was the fifth fatal incident of the calendar year in the lake’s waters the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office investigated.
This is a developing story and will be updated if further information becomes available.
