Two UNC volleyball players earned All-ACC honors on Monday, as the league released its annual postseason awards.
Senior middle hitter Beth Nordhorn was named a First Team All-Conference selection, while last season’s ACC Player of the Year–junior outside hitter Taylor Leath–followed up that effort with a Second Team nod this year.
Nordhorn–who stands 6-foot-7–was a force on both offense and defense all season long for head coach Joe Sagula. She finished third in program history with a .378 hitting percentage, while also finishing eighth in the ACC with 1.15 blocks per game.
Leath, meanwhile, led the Tar Heels with 336 kills this season and was second in both digs (228) and service aces (20).
After entering the year with high expectations in the preseason, UNC battled a number of significant injuries on the way to a 14-14 record in the regular season–however, it missed out on a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
The Tar Heels were 13-1 at home and 1-13 in matches on the road and at neutral sites.
“I am proud of our team this year to find a way make it through the adversity we faced with so many injuries,” Sagula said. “I am especially proud of both Beth and Taylor for how well they performed throughout the season. They both played every match and that is a testament to their hard work and competitive drive.”
