The UNC women’s lacrosse team added a new member to its staff on Thursday, as head coach Jenny Levy announced that Kara Cannizzaro will become the Tar Heels’ Director of Operations.

Cannizzaro made her name in Chapel Hill as a midfielder playing under Levy–taking home National Player of the Year honors back in 2013 while leading UNC to its first national championship.

This includes a phenomenal performance in that year’s NCAA Championship game which saw Cannizzaro score four goals and dish out two assists in a triple overtime thriller against then-undefeated Maryland.

She has spent the last two seasons as the head coach for Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.

Her new role with the Tar Heels will encompass a number of different behind-the-scenes duties–including, but not limited to, running the program’s social media accounts.

“We are very excited to welcome Kara back to Chapel Hill,” Levy said, of her former standout player. “Her passion and enthusiasm for everything Carolina is contagious.  She is a winner and a go-getter, and she is the perfect person to steer our new program initiatives.”
