Carrboro Police have arrested two men in a string of vehicle crimes.

Officials say officers responded to calls for service related to three unoccupied vehicle fires, two calls for breaking and entering of motor vehicles and a stolen motor vehicle all between 1:30 and four o’clock the morning of June 3. All of the incidents occurred between Jones Ferry Road and Laurel Avenue, according to a release.

Police were then called to a reported breaking and entering in progress at University Lake Apartments on Barnes Street 12 hours later.

As a result of that investigation, 21-year-old Gerardo Arturo Rodriguez-Arriaga and 19-year-old Christopher Orellana were taken into custody.

Orellana has been charged with felony breaking or entering and felony larceny after breaking or entering.

Police say further investigation led to Rodriguez-Arriaga also being charged for the early morning incidents.

Rodriguez-Arriaga is now facing 12 charges with additional counts pending, according to police. His charges include breaking or entering a vehicle, burning of personal property, larceny of an automobile, attempted first-degree arson.
