The Chicago Bears used the 221st overall pick of the NFL Draft in the sixth round to select UNC senior wide receiver Dazz Newsome, the fifth and final Tar Heel drafted this year.

Newsome caught at least 18 passes in all four years with the Tar Heels, including catching a career-high 72 passes for 1,018 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior in 2019.

Versatility was one of Newsome’s specialties, lining up all over the field as a receiver while also contributing on punt returns as well.

He ended his career at UNC having registered 188 receptions for 2,435 yards and 18 touchdowns, numbers that rank fifth and seventh in school history.

With the Bears, Newsome will be working with new quarterback Justin Fields out of Ohio State–the team’s first round pick on Thursday. Chicago recently moved on from former UNC quarterback Mitch Trubisky, who ended up signing with the Buffalo Bills.
