With the 78th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings used their third-round selection on UNC senior linebacker Chazz Surratt.
Surratt arrived in Chapel Hill as a highly-touted dual-threat quarterback, but made the move to linebacker prior to the 2019 season and has since gone on to be a two-time First Team All-ACC performer.
Over the last two seasons, Surratt racked up a team-high 207 tackles to go with 12.5 sacks and two interceptions–constantly using his great speed and knowledge of opposing offenses to stop plays before they had a chance to begin.
The Tar Heels used him as both an inside linebacker and as a pass rusher depending on the situation, the kind of positional versatility NFL teams value greatly.
Surratt joins a Vikings team which went 7-9 and missed the playoffs in 2020. Minnesota starting linebackers Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks were each limited due to injuries last season, something which could allow Surratt to shine early on if given the opportunity.
We’ll always remember this moment.
