It appears the Mitchell Trubisky era in Chicago isn’t over yet, as ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported Friday that the Bears have opted to start Trubisky in the team’s season opener next Sunday against the Detroit Lions.

Trubisky has been Chicago’s primary starter for each of the last three seasons after being selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft out of UNC.

After leading the Bears to an NFC North title and an appearance in the playoffs in 2018, Trubisky regressed a bit in 2019–one of the main reasons Chicago slipped to 8-8 and missed the postseason.

As a result, the team traded a fourth-round draft pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars for quarterback Nick Foles.

Competition for the starting job has lasted throughout the offseason, with Trubisky finally winning the opportunity to start with just over a week until the beginning of the regular season.

For his career, Trubisky has thrown for 8,554 yards, 48 touchdowns and 29 interceptions.
