Although the Tampa Bay Buccaneers came into Chicago on Sunday with their backup quarterback turned starter, Ryan Fitzpatrick, having captured the nation’s attention through the first three weeks, it was former UNC standout Mitchell Trubisky who ended up stealing the headlines.
Trubisky threw a career-high six touchdown passes–including five in the first half alone–as the Bears cruised to a 48-10 victory and Fitzpatrick ended the game back on the bench.
It was by far the best performance of Trubisky’s young NFL career, and one that proved why Chicago traded up to draft him No. 2 overall in 2017.
The Ohio native completed 19 of his 26 pass attempts for 354 yards, while posting a team-high 53 rushing yards on just three carries and making throws like this one to teammate Allen Robinson.

There’s still plenty of time left in this season–and Trubisky’s career–but Sunday may have been the official “breakout” moment Bear fans and Tar Heel fans have been waiting for.
