This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Anissa McLendon.

Anissa is a teacher assistant in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools System and has created a program that provides African-American students with activities, field trips, and skills in the Arts and S.T.E.M. fields

Empowering Excellence thru Exploration (or E3) takes place in July and the camp is free for students.

“It is free. So we take care of their prep for lunch and we try to give them a snack in the afternoon and all the field trips that we go on, pretty much everything is free with that too.”
