Free Spirit Freedom is a cultural arts initiative begun in 2012 that works to explore the diversity and rich heritage of our community, with extra attention and respect for African and Native American populations. With a firm goal of promoting cross-cultural memory that is as deep as the roots of Orange County itself, Free Spirit Freedom works with the Hillsborough Arts Council to trace the cultural origins of our community as it is today.

On today’s edition of “This is Tourism,” WCHL’s Ron Stutts speaks with Renee Price, one of the founders of Free Spirit Freedom about the past, present and future of the project — from humble beginnings exploring local history to inaugural exhibitions at the Hillsborough Arts Council gallery. The growing collection of historic images, narratives, art, artifacts and literature reflects and relates a legacy of struggle, triumph and achievement. Listen below for their full conversation!

This weekly segment uncovers the local impact the tourism industry has on our community, told through the stories of the people who make tourism flourish in Orange County. Listen during the Ron Stutts Show every Thursday at 8:40 for a new “This is Tourism” live interview!
