The 17th-ranked UNC wrestling team opened up the ACC dual season on Saturday at Carmichael Arena with a 22-13 victory over the No. 25 Virginia Cavaliers.

UNC moved to 8-5 (1-0 ACC) on the season with the victory, while Virginia dropped to 11-7 (0-1 ACC) with the loss.

The Cavaliers opened the match with an 11-2 major decision victory at 125 pounds, but the Tar Heels responded with three straight major decisions after that to take control of the proceedings–going ahead 12-4 on the team scoreboard.

Wins at 157 and 165 pounds helped Virginia pull back within two points, before UNC won three of the final four matches to close out the victory.
