Head coach Anson Dorrance and the defending ACC champion UNC women’s soccer team announced the schedule for the Tar Heels’ upcoming 2018 campaign on Monday.
The slate includes a total of 18 regular season games, with a pair of exhibitions also scheduled to be played in the Triangle area.
With construction still underway on UNC’s new on-campus soccer stadium, all nine home regular season matches will be played at the program’s practice facility on Finley Fields South located on Old Mason Farm Road in Chapel Hill.
Following the two exhibitions on the road against NC State (Aug. 8) and Duke (Aug. 12), the Tar Heels officially begin their season at home against Illinois on Aug. 16.
Illinois is one of four non-conference teams scheduled to travel to Chapel Hill this season, joining Ohio State (Aug. 19), Texas (Aug. 22) and UCF (Aug. 26). All four of those programs are coached by Tar Heel alumni.
Those also represent the first four games of the season for UNC, which will then move on to the Duke/Nike Classic in Durham–where matches against Providence (Aug. 30) and Marquette (Sept. 2) await.
The Tar Heels will close out the non-conference schedule with a trip to California to face Santa Clara (Sept. 7) and defending national champion Stanford (Sept. 9).
ACC play will begin on Sept. 14 with a road match at Florida State, while Clemson (Sept. 23), Notre Dame (Oct. 4), Syracuse (Oct. 7) and Virginia Tech (Oct. 13) represent UNC’s other road games inside the conference.
Facing the Tar Heels at home during ACC competition is a group of teams including: Louisville (Sept. 29), Boston College (Oct. 18), Miami (Oct. 21) and Wake Forest (Oct. 25).
The ACC Tournament is scheduled to begin on Oct. 28.
