UNC seniors Jamie Ortega and Taylor Moreno were named the ACC Women’s Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week on Tuesday, while also earning National Player of the Week honors as well.

Ortega was named the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Offensive Player of the Week, while sharing the ACC’s weekly award with Boston College’s Charlotte North.

This came after the forward had five goals and three assists for a season-high eight points in the top-ranked Tar Heels’ 17-6 win over No. 2 Syracuse this past Saturday.

She scored four goals during a crucial 9-0 Tar Heel run, helping turn a 4-1 Syracuse lead into a blowout for UNC.

Moreno was the IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week after holding the Orange scoreless for nearly 29 straight minutes and recording a season-high 11 saves–the 16th time she has reached double digit saves in her career.

The Tar Heels improved to 11-0 this season with the win over Syracuse and have won their last 18 games dating back to the shortened 2020 campaign.

Next on the schedule for head coach Jenny Levy and company is a road game at Notre Dame on Saturday.
