A two-game road trip to Florida didn’t get off to the best start for the UNC volleyball team on Friday night, as the Tar Heels were defeated 3-1 by the hometown Miami Hurricanes (20-25, 22-25, 25-15, 18-25).

After dropping the first two sets, UNC (5-9, 1-4 ACC) put on a dominant showing in the third set–but ultimately saw their comeback attempt fall short in the fourth.

Madison Laufenberg posted a career-high 16 kills for the Tar Heels, while Destiny Cox added 13 and Ava Bell chipped in 11.

Miami (8-4, 4-1 ACC) finished the night with a hitting percentage of .250, which played a large role in the team’s success throughout the night.
