Thursday marked the release of the United Soccer Coaches Division I Women’s Preseason Poll, with UNC beginning the year ranked No. 6 in the country.
The Tar Heels are coming off a season where they went 17-3-2 before ultimately falling to Princeton in the third round of the NCAA Tournament–continuing the program’s longest national title drought in history, which dates back to 2012.
UNC is scheduled to face seven ranked teams in 2018, including defending national champion, and preseason No. 1, Stanford.
Behind Stanford in the top five is a group that includes No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 Duke, No. 4 Penn State and No. 5 South Carolina.
