After a 2-0 start to begin the 2020 campaign, the UNC women’s soccer team claimed the No. 1 spot in the United Soccer Coaches’ first fall rankings.

The Tar Heels defeated Wake Forest 4-1 in their season opener last Friday, before winning 1-0 against Virginia Tech on Sunday.

Only teams that are competing this fall were included in the rankings. The poll was also reduced to just 15 teams due to less teams competing.

The ACC boasts each of the top three teams in the country, with No. 2 Florida State and No. 3 Clemson checking in just behind the Tar Heels. In addition, the league also has No. 7 Duke, No. 11 Virginia and No. 12 Pittsburgh–giving it more ranked teams than any other conference.

UNC continues its season on Sunday, when it heads to Durham for a top-10 rivalry showdown against Duke.
