Fresh off a win in Knoxville in Tuesday over Tennessee, the UNC softball team made the trip to Nashville on Wednesday–where it suffered a 12-2 loss to the Lipscomb Lady Bison.
Lipscomb scored eight runs in the first two innings against Tar Heel freshman starting pitcher Caroline Cagle, while going on to defeat the Tar Heels (10-14) by mercy rule after just five innings were played.
Kiersten Licea homered in the fourth inning to bring UNC’s deficit to 8-2 on the scoreboard, but the Lady Bison (12-10) responded with four more runs in the top of the fifth to erase any hope of a miraculous comeback.
For the game, UNC managed to put together only four hits.
