Despite not playing this past weekend, the UNC football team gained one spot on Sunday in the newest edition of the Associated Press Top 25 poll–rising to No. 11.

The Tar Heels opened the season strong with a 31-6 victory at home over Syracuse, but had their scheduled game against Charlotte canceled due to the 49ers’ issues with COVID-19 and contact tracing.

A loss by previous No. 11 Oklahoma State to Tulsa on Saturday helped boost the Tar Heels up in the rankings, but the rest of the top 10 remains largely unchanged.

Clemson still has a stranglehold on the No. 1 ranking, followed by No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 4 Georgia and No. 5 Florida.

Defending national champion LSU checks in at No. 6, with Notre Dame taking the No. 7 spot. Texas and Auburn tied for No. 8 this week, while Texas A&M rounds out the top 10.

Inside the ACC, Miami moved up five spots to No. 12 after a win over then-No. 18 Louisville on Saturday. Virginia Tech held on to the No. 20 ranking, Pittsburgh slid up four spots to No. 21 and the Cardinals dropped six spots to No. 24 following the loss to Miami.

UNC is currently scheduled to be off this weekend, but is actively looking to add a game in the wake of this past weekend’s cancellation.
