Following their 59-17 win over Georgia State on Saturday, the UNC football team rose three spots in Sunday’s newest AP Top 25 poll. The Tar Heels fell from No. 10 to No. 24 last week after dropping their opener to Virginia Tech.

Carolina notably leapfrogged ACC Coastal Division foes Miami, who nearly lost to Appalachian State over the weekend. The Hurricanes fell from No. 22 to No. 24. The only other ACC teams in the poll are Clemson at No. 6 and Virginia Tech, who moved up four spots to No. 15. The Tar Heels still have work to do if they are to regain their preseason spot in the Top 10.

Pittsburgh, who defeated Tennessee on the road Saturday, also received votes, as did Boston College, who have started 2-0.

Carolina is not scheduled to play a ranked opponent until hosting the No. 24 Hurricanes on October 16. Their other ranked opponent, Notre Dame, fell from No. 8 to No. 12 in this week’s poll after barely scraping by at home against Toledo on Saturday. To view the full poll, click here.

The Tar Heels’ next opponent, Virginia, did not receive votes, although the Cavaliers are 2-0 and will bring a four-game winning streak against Carolina into Kenan Stadium next Saturday night. Early spreads have UNC as nine point favorites.
