Sunday was a historic day for the UNC men’s golf team, which won the Tar Heel Intercollegiate at Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill by posting the second-lowest 54-hole score in ACC history.

The Tar Heels were a combined 49-under par for the event, with senior Ben Griffin leading the way.

Griffin tied the UNC record for lowest round by shooting a nine-under 63 in the afternoon on Saturday, which helped him eventually take home the individual championship on Sunday.

The Chapel Hill native ultimately smashed another UNC record with his final score of 19-under-par, with the red-hot Tar Heels following Griffin’s lead as a team.

Other members of the UNC roster competing in the Tar Heel Intercollegiate included: second place finisher Jose Montaño (-14), Preyer Fountain (-8), William Register (-6) and Austin Hitt (-4).

For perspective on how dominant the Tar Heels were over the weekend, second place Jacksonville posted a score of 26-under-par–good enough for 23 shots behind UNC.

UNC-Wilmington (-21), Maryland (-20) and Coastal Carolina (-17) rounded out the top five.
