U.S. Lacrosse magazine released its annual preseason poll in its recent January edition, ranking the UNC men’s team at No. 12 to begin the year.

This comes after the Tar Heels went 7-7 in 2018, missing both the ACC and NCAA Tournaments despite being just two years removed from a national championship victory.

A solid core of returning players, however, will join up with one of the nation’s top recruiting classes to try and get head coach Joe Breschi’s squad back on top.

Yale is the No. 1 team to start the season, followed by No. 2 Duke, No. 3 Maryland, No. 4 Cornell and No. 5 Virginia.

The ACC has all five of its teams among the top 12, with No. 8 Notre Dame and No. 10 Syracuse joining Duke and Virginia ahead of the Tar Heels.

UNC will officially begin its regular season on Feb. 2 with a game in Atlanta against Mercer.
