The ACC released its Women’s Soccer Players of the Week on Tuesday, with a pair of Tar Heels earning the selection.

Freshman sensation Alessia Russo was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Week, while Julia Ashley shared Defensive Player of the Week honors with Duke’s Schuyler DeBree.

Of UNC’s five goals last week in wins over Miami and No. 15 Wake Forest, Russo was responsible for scoring three of them–including both in the Tar Heels’ 2-0 victory over the Demon Deacons.

Ashley, meanwhile, tallied two assists and helped spearhead a pair of outstanding defensive efforts. The Tar Heels posted a pair of shutouts and allowed Miami and Wake Forest to combine for just 10 shots.

UNC is currently 10-2 in 2017, and has won its last six games. The Tar Heels remain tied with Duke atop the ACC standings, and will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 14 against Boston College.
