With a 2-0 victory over the No. 13 Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Sunday at Dorrance Field, the top-ranked UNC women’s soccer team capped off an undefeated regular season and clinched the ACC regular season championship.
Hallie Klanke scored in the 32nd minute to give the Tar Heels (9-0-0) the lead, while Brianna Pinto added the insurance goal just five minutes into the second half.
UNC ended the match with 13 shots compared to just five for Notre Dame (4-4-0), as the program wrapped up its 17th undefeated regular season and first since 2004.
This also marked the 24th ACC regular season title in the program’s illustrious history under head coach Anson Dorrance.
“The first 30 minutes of the game was the best we have looked all year,” Dorrance said afterwards. “We played with energy and pace, we were unselfish and were very impressive with our variety of attack. Our defense was remarkable. Our pressure was where we wanted it to be and I am so proud of our team tonight.
