UNC’s Bella Devey recorded a hat trick in less than 15 minutes to help the Tar Heels on their way to an 8-0 win against Quinnipiac at Dorrance Field Sunday. The eight goals are Carolina’s most in a single match since 2019.

Devey, a preseason All-ACC honoree who scored two goals in the Tar Heels’ season-opening win against Fairfield Thursday, quickly equaled that tally when she scored her first goal in the 10th minute and her second in the 14th, after which UNC led 3-0. Hope Munson, who scored the first two goals of her collegiate career Thursday, had struck for another in between Devey’s goals. Less than a minute after her second goal, Devey had scored her third to net her first collegiate hat trick. After scoring five goals as a freshman in 2025, Devey already has six to her name in two matches in 2026.

UNC led 4-0 after the first half, one which saw it outshoot Quinnipiac 14-0. The onslaught continued in the second, as Lilliah Blum and Summer Denigan combined for three more goals before weather delayed action for more than an hour. After the break, Logan Tongberg joined the fun in the 84th minute to score Carolina’s eighth goal of the match. Carolina’s last match with at least eight goals scored came against UNLV on Sep. 8, 2019.

For the match, Carolina outshot Quinnipiac 25-2 and did not allow a shot on target for the first time since a 3-0 win at James Madison on Sep. 7, 2025. Now 2-0 to start the 2026 season, the Tar Heels will be back in action when they visit No. 10 Arkansas next Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The match will be televised on ESPNU.
