UNC’s Bella Devey and Cali O’Neill were named the ACC’s Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week Tuesday. For Devey, it’s the third such honor of her career and the second consecutive week she has won it. O’Neill is Defensive Player of the Week for the first time.

Devey scored a brace in top-ranked UNC’s 4-1 win vs. No. 12 Notre Dame Friday, recording her two goals in a span of less than five minutes in the first half. The sophomore from Utah has now recorded a brace in three consecutive matches, with her two-goal outing at No. 16 Virginia in September helping her earn another ACC Offensive Player of the Week award. Devey’s 14 total goals in 12 matches this season leads both the team and the ACC at large and ranks second nationally.

O’Neill, meanwhile, recorded her first career assist in Friday’s win against the Fighting Irish. The freshman from Durham and Seaforth High School graduate has started all 12 of UNC’s matches this season on the back line, helping the Tar Heels post seven shutout wins. Carolina’s eight goals allowed through 12 matches ranks second in the ACC.

Devey, O’Neill and the rest of the No. 1 Tar Heels will be back in action Friday when they visit No. 22 Florida State in Tallahassee at 6 p.m.

On the men’s side, UNC’s Joschi Schelb was also named ACC Offensive Player of the Week.

Schelb, a senior transfer from Rutgers, has scored in each of UNC’s last five matches, during which time the Tar Heels are 4-1. He recorded his first brace of the season in Carolina’s 3-1 win at Boston College Saturday, giving him three total goals and an assist on the week. Schelb’s nine goals on the season leads both the team and the ACC.

Schelb and the Tar Heels are currently on a three-match winning streak. They’ll return to action Saturday at 7 p.m. when they host Notre Dame at Dorrance Field.

Additionally, UNC field hockey’s Hope Haynes was named the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Week.

Haynes and the UNC defense have been an integral part of the Tar Heels’ three-game winning streak. In those three games, Carolina has allowed just one combined goal and outscored the opposition 15-1. Most recently, UNC defeated No. 16 Louisville 3-0 on the road Friday and held the Cardinals to just one shot on target.

Haynes, a senior from Texas, has started each of the last 33 games on the back line for the Tar Heels. This year, she has already set career highs in total shots and points.

Haynes and UNC will be back in action Friday when they visit Saint Joseph’s in Philadelphia at 3 p.m.
