Joschi Schelb recorded a brace within the match’s first 22 minutes to help UNC earn a 3-1 road win at Boston College Sunday afternoon. It’s the Tar Heels’ third consecutive win and first in ACC play this season.
Schelb’s first goal put the Tar Heels ahead after just 2:04 of match time, as the senior Rutgers transfer took in a cross-pitch pass from Luca Nikolai and deposited it into the far corner of the net. His second came barely two minutes after Boston College equalized in the 20th minute, and once again an assist from Nikolai set him up for the finish.
The Tar Heels continued to control possession into the second half and found an insurance goal off the foot of Riley Berge in the 58th minute. The Eagles would only manage one more shot on goal for the remainder of the match. Overall, UNC held a 17-7 edge in total shots, an 8-4 edge in shots on target and a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Saturday’s win improves Carolina to 5-2-3 overall on the season and 1-1-2 in ACC play. It was also the team’s first win on the road this season. The Tar Heels will be back in action next Saturday at 7 p.m. when they host No. 13 Notre Dame at Dorrance Field.
