Following a two-goal performance in No. 1 UNC’s 3-1 win at No. 16 Virginia Friday evening, Bella Devey has been named the ACC’s Offensive Player of the Week. It’s the second time this season Devey has earned the honor and the second consecutive week a Tar Heel has taken it home, after Lilliah Blum did so last week.
Devey’s performance Friday was her third brace of the season and second in as many matches, with her two goals coming in a span of just 26 seconds in the first half. Currently, the sophomore from Draper, UT leads the team with 12 goals on the year – no other teammate has more than eight – and is one of only five Tar Heels to start all 11 of the team’s matches so far this season.
Devey’s strong run of play has sparked a seven-match winning streak for the Tar Heels, who are 10-1 on the season and are the top-ranked team in the nation. In that seven-match winning streak, UNC has outscored the opposition 23-4.
Devey and the rest of the No. 1 Tar Heels will be back in action Friday night at Dorrance Field when they host No. 12 Notre Dame at 6 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ACC Network.
