In the program’s first game as the top-ranked team in America since 2017, the UNC men’s lacrosse team flexed its muscles on Saturday at Dorrance Field with a 27-12 victory over High Point.

The 27 goals scored are the most by a UNC team since 2001, as the Tar Heels left nothing up to chance this time after winning a close 17-15 game against High Point back on Feb. 16.

High Point scored the first two goals on Saturday, however, and the score was tied 5-5–making it look like the Panthers may give UNC another run for its money. That all changed in the second quarter when the Tar Heels broke a 6-6 tie by scoring the game’s next eight goals to take a commanding lead.

Despite scoring the final three goals before halftime, High Point once again faced another UNC onslaught in the third quarter–as the Tar Heels reeled off eight of the nine goals scored in the period.

The fourth quarter was simply a formality as both teams traded goals with the outcome no longer in doubt.

UNC star Chris Gray returned to form with four goals and three assists after being held to just two points in the Tar Heels’ most recent win over No. 16 Richmond. Gray has now scored exactly seven points in four of UNC’s five games.

Nicky Solomon added four goals and three assists of his own, while Brian Cameron gave the Tar Heels three players with at least four goals.

UNC improved to 5-0 in 2020 with the victory, and has now won 12 consecutive games in a streak dating back to last season.
