USA Baseball released its annual Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List on Thursday, with UNC junior outfielder Michael Busch the only Tar Heel to make the cut.

The Golden Spikes Award is presented each year to the top amateur baseball player in the nation.

Busch–who played first base for UNC in each of the last two seasons–started all 64 games for the Tar Heels in 2018 while posting a .317 batting average and leading the team in home runs (13), RBI (63), slugging percentage (.521), on-base percentage (.465), and walks (55).

He is expected to play a huge role once again as the Tar Heels get ready to open their regular season next Friday at Boshamer Stadium when they host Xavier for a three-game series.
