All good things must come to an end.
The UNC women’s basketball team learned that the hard way on Thursday night at Carmichael Arena, as it saw its four-game winning streak snapped at the hands of the rival Duke Blue Devils by a score of 85-69.
Prior to Thursday’s game the Tar Heels had not only won four straight, but had two of those wins against Notre Dame and NC State–teams ranked No. 1 and No. 7 at the time of their losses to UNC.
The Tar Heels (14-10, 5-5 ACC) received a team-high 23 points from sophomore forward Janelle Bailey against Duke (11-11, 3-7 ACC), but were unable to overcome a hot shooting performance from the Blue Devils.
Duke shot 57 percent for the entire game compared to a 33 percent mark for UNC. On top of that, the Tar Heels were without star guard Paris Kea who was out with an undisclosed illness.
The Blue Devils took control of the game in the second quarter and led at halftime 40-31 before continuing to extend that lead in the second half.
Taylor Koenen had 12 points and Stephanie Watts had 11 to represent the two other Tar Heels besides Bailey to score in double figures.
Up Next:
