A career-high five goals and two assists from senior midfielder Justin Anderson helped the fourth-ranked UNC men’s lacrosse team hold on for a 15-13 road victory over the No. 11 Denver Pioneers on Sunday afternoon.
The win improves UNC to 5-0 to begin the season, while dropping Denver to 3-2.
Early in the game, the Tar Heels built a commanding 9-1 lead and appeared well on their way to an easy blowout victory before the Pioneers put together an impressive comeback attempt which saw them outscore UNC 8-2 in the fourth quarter.
With an eight-goal lead heading into the final period, however, the Tar Heels had just enough insurance on the board to come out with the victory.
In addition to Anderson’s dominance, UNC also received two goals apiece from Chris Gray, Nicky Solomon and Brian Cameron.
