Behind six goals and an assist from star attacker Chris Gray, the UNC men’s lacrosse team opened its season in style on Sunday with a 24-13 win over Denver.
After allowing Denver to score the game’s first goal, the Tar Heels responded by scoring the next seven–building a lead they would hold onto the rest of the day.
In addition to Gray’s heroics, UNC also received three goals apiece from Jacob Kelly, Ryan O’Connell and Nicky Solomon.
The 24 goals scored were the most Denver’s program has ever allowed in a single game.
UNC has now won its season opener in 23 consecutive seasons and is currently riding an eight-game winning streak dating back to last season–having never lost since Gray transferred from Boston University prior to the shortened 2020 campaign.
