Another standout performance from senior attacker Chris Gray on Saturday night at Dorrance Field helped the No. 2 UNC men’s lacrosse team roll to an 18-7 victory over Jacksonville.

Gray finished with a team-high four goals and three assists to complete his second straight seven-point showing to begin the season.

William Perry added three goals to the winning cause, while Nicky Solomon, Brian Cameron, Tanner Cook and Jacob Kelly each contributed two goals apiece.

The Tar Heels are now 2-0 to begin the season and have won their last nine games overall in a streak that includes the entirety of the shortened 2020 campaign.

UNC led 9-5 at halftime before outscoring Jacksonville 9-2 to pull away by double digits. For the game, the Tar Heels out-shot their opponents by a huge margin of 53-24.

“All in all, defensively it’s a big step forward for us,” UNC head coach Joe Breschi said. “Offensively I thought we were a little stagnant in the second half, particularly in the fourth quarter, but we certainly took advantage of opportunities, with 53 shots to their 24. I just thought we played really, really hard. The effort was outstanding. Kudos to our defense and how well they played”.
