A pair of Tar Heels swept the ACC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week honors, the league announced Tuesday–as senior midfielder Marie McCool was named the top player on offense and freshman Emma Trenchard the top player on defense.

UNC (3-1) is coming off a thrilling overtime upset over No. 1 Maryland this past Sunday, a win that ended the defending national champions’ 25-game win streak.

McCool had four goals and an assist against the Terrapins and made perhaps the two most important plays of the game.

Her assist to Ela Hazar tied things up with just 22 seconds remaining. She then followed that up with the game-winning goal less than a minute into overtime.

Trenchard, meanwhile, was responsible for winning the overtime draw control that led to McCool’s game-winner.

The freshman won four draws in the game, caused three turnovers and collected three groundballs as she led a strong team defensive effort against the nation’s top team.

UNC jumped to No. 3 in the team rankings following the win, and will have its next game on Saturday, March 3 at home against Florida.
