UNC junior Julia Ashley was named the ACC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, for her efforts in the Tar Heels’ success over the weekend.

Playing in the Duke Nike Classic in Durham, Ashley helped UNC pick up a pair of dominant shutout wins over Auburn (5-0) and UNC-Wilmington (2-0).

She was on the field for all but 10 minutes of those victories, serving as the team’s primary defensive anchor.

The Tar Heels allowed their opponents to take just four shots combined over the weekend, while giving up only a single corner kick.

Ashley also picked up an assist on Sydney Spruill’s goal against UNC-Wilmington, which ultimately served as the difference in the game.

Louisville freshman midfielder Emina Ekic was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals and dishing out an assist in the Cardinals’ win over rival Kentucky.
