Fresh off a 2-1 overtime victory over No. 12 Duke in the season opener, UNC senior midfielder Joanna Boyles was recognized as the ACC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Boyles assisted on Jessie Scarpa’s overtime game-winner, after scoring the game-tying goal earlier in the match.

Her efforts helped the Tar Heels secure an important victory in comeback fashion over their most hated rival.

It was also Boyles’ first game for UNC since 2015, as she was forced to sit out last season due to a torn ACL–her second such injury in as many years.

The Raleigh native has nine goals and 13 assists throughout her career in Chapel Hill, and figures to be an important piece to UNC’s success in 2017.

Pittsburgh freshman goalkeeper Katelyn McEachern was recognized as the league’s Defensive Player of the Week after posting back-to-back shutouts in her first two career starts.

Next up on the schedule for the Tar Heels is a match against Central Florida in Orlando, which is set for this Friday, August 25 at 7 p.m.
