Although he’s yet to take the floor in a Tar Heel jersey, incoming UNC guard Coby White continues to spend the summer making a name for himself on the international stage.
White poured in 25 points on Friday in St. Catherines, Ontario to help lead Team USA to a 104-92 win over Argentina in the semifinals of the FIBA Americas U-18 Championship.
The native of Wilson, North Carolina was second on the team in scoring behind only Kansas commit Quentin Grimes, who finished with 26 points of his own playing for his future college coach Bill Self.
Although Argentina (3-2) played Team USA (5-0) closer than any of its previous opponents, the Americans still managed to hold the lead wire-to-wire on the way to the victory.
As a result, a date with Canada (5-0)–the tournament’s only other undefeated team–awaits White and Team USA on Saturday in the gold medal game.
It also marks the fifth consecutive time that the U.S. has advanced this far in the FIBA Americas U-18 Championship.
