Preseason honors continue to roll in for UNC senior linebacker Chazz Surratt, who was named earlier this week to the watch lists for both the Butkus Award and the Nagurski Trophy.

The Butkus Award goes to the top linebacker in college football, while the Nagurski Trophy honors the National Defensive Player of the Year.

Surratt was previously selected as a Preseason First Team All-American by Street & Smith’s Magazine and chosen to the watch list for the Bednarik Trophy.

In his first season as a linebacker after transitioning from quarterback, Surratt exploded for a team-high 115 tackles to go along with 6.5 sacks, 10 quarterback hurries, one interception and a fumble recovery.

He was the only Tar Heel to earn First Team All-ACC honors in 2019, and finished second in ACC Defensive Player of the Year voting behind Clemson’s Isaiah Simmons–who was drafted eighth overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2020 NFL Draft.
