The UNC men’s golf team has its eyes on a national championship this season, and it will enter its first action this fall as the top-ranked team in the land. Both the Golfweek Golf Coaches Association and Golf Channel ranked the Tar Heels No. 1 in their preseason polls.

UNC will compete in a loaded ACC this season, with last season’s national runners-up Georgia Tech, national semifinalists Florida State, Virginia, Duke and Wake Forest also ranked in both polls.

Carolina returns four players from its starting lineup which reached the NCAA semifinals last season, including ACC Player of the Year and first team All-American David Ford. Ford’s twin brother Maxwell Ford is joining the program as a transfer from Georgia. Pepperdine transfer Dylan Menante, senior Peter Fountain and graduate student Austin Greaser fill out UNC’s projected 2023-24 lineup.

Due to professional and international competitions, that quintet won’t play together in every tournament this season, so fifth-year senior Kenan Poole, redshirt junior Ryan Smith, redshirt sophomore Nanu Mohan and freshman Hampton Roberts will cycle in as needed.

Carolina’s season will get underway on September 15 at the Olympia Fields Fighting Illini Invitational in Illinois. For a full look at the Coaches Poll, click here. For a full look at the Golf Channel rankings, click here.
