The UNC men’s golf program is keeping it in the family.

The team announced the signing of transfer Maxwell Ford — twin brother of Carolina’s David Ford — from the University of Georgia on Tuesday.

“I’m super excited to join the golf family at the University of North Carolina,” Ford said. “The golf program obviously has been very successful recently, and I am excited to be a part of that in the future. Coach [Andrew] DiBitetto has helped create a culture that brings out the best in every player.”

Maxwell, like David, is a rising junior and will have two years of eligibility with the Tar Heels. While playing for Georgia, Ford finished tied for 18th in the 2023 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship and posted a 71.49 stroke average. He was named to the SEC All-Freshman team for the 2021-22 season after winning state championships twice in high school. He is currently ranked No. 52 in the World Amateur Golf rankings and has won eight junior tournaments.

“We are thrilled to add Maxwell Ford to our Carolina family,” said DiBitetto. “He’s an elite player and that’s important to us. But the character of the people we bring into our program will always be more important and Maxwell is an elite young man. Just like his brother, David, and our other guys, Maxwell is relentless in his pursuit to be the best version of himself.”

Ford is the second transfer to join the men’s golf program in the past two seasons, after Dylan Menante signed on from Pepperdine last summer.
