The UNC men’s golf team received a bid to its eighth consecutive NCAA Tournament Wednesday afternoon. The Tar Heels will be the No. 1 seed in the Salem, S.C. regional. Carolina has advanced out of regionals into the NCAA Championship in each of the last five tournaments.

The regional will be played from May 15 through May 17 at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls. A pair of other ACC teams — No. 2 seed Georgia Tech and No. 9 seed Clemson — are joining the Tar Heels in Salem. Other notable teams in the region include No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 4 San Diego State, No. 5 Georgia Southern, No. 6 Arkansas and No. 7 Purdue.

The top five teams after three rounds of stroke play and the top individual among non-qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Championship later this month in Scottsdale, AZ. The Tar Heels finished second in their regional in last year’s tournament, and Austin Greaser became the first UNC player ever to win the individual competition at a regional.

Carolina is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation by Golfweek and is coming off a highly successful regular season in which it won five team tournament titles.
