The UNC men’s golf team earned a spot in an NCAA regional for the seventh straight season on Wednesday. The Tar Heels were named as the No. 1 seed in the Yale Regional, to be played from May 16 through May 18 at the Yale Golf Course in New Haven, CT.

The Tar Heels are currently ranked as the No. 7 team in the country by Golfweek. Ryan Gerard is the highest-ranked player on the team at No. 30.

Joining Carolina in the 14-team Yale regional are ACC foes No. 3 Wake Forest, No. 5 NC State and No. 10 Virginia. The top five teams at each of the six NCAA regionals advance to the NCAA Championship in Arizona later this month.

“I’m proud of our guys for what they’ve accomplished to this point in earning a No. 1 seed,” said head coach Andrew DiBitetto. “But we all know the fun part about this time of year is everybody gets a clean slate. It doesn’t really matter if you’re a one seed, a seven or 13 seed, everybody has the same opportunity.”

Carolina has played a regional at Yale three times in program history, and advanced out of the region in each of those instances. The Tar Heels have advanced to the NCAA Championship in the last four tournaments, not counting the cancelled 2020 tournament.

The Tar Heels are looking to improve upon their NCAA Championship finish last season, when they fell in the national quarterfinals to Arizona State.
