With Thursday marking the annual National Women’s Soccer League Draft in Philadelphia, three UNC players found out their new pro destinations.

Megan Buckingham was the first Tar Heel selected, as the Chicago Red Stars drafted the Michigan native with the 24th overall selection.

The Houston Dash chose Abby Elinsky–an Illinois transfer who spent three years in Chapel Hill–with the 30th overall pick, while the Boston Breakers took fifth-year senior Joanne Boyles two picks later.

As a group, the three midfielders helped UNC win its first ACC Tournament title since 2009. They also played key roles as the Tar Heels posted a 17-3-2 record this past season–despite being upset by Princeton in the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament.

In total, 40 players were selected in the draft. Stanford standout Andi Sullivan was drafted with the top overall selection by the Washington Spirit.
