Former UNC standout quarterback Mitchell Trubisky–who was selected by the Chicago Bears with the No. 2 overall pick in last June’s NFL Draft–set the all-time rookie passing record for his new team during Sunday’s 20-3 victory over the winless Cleveland Browns.

Trubisky finished the win with 193 yards through the air, while adding another 44 on the ground.

In 11 starts this season, the native of Mentor, Ohio has tallied 2,015 passing yards–good enough to surpass the Bears’ previous record of 1,869, which was set by Kyle Orton in 2005.

Orton started 15 games that year, however, meaning Trubisky accomplished the feat in much less time on the field.

“It’s not really about individual stats,” Trubisky said after the game. “It’s about growth and development and getting better each day, and I wouldn’t be able to have that without my teammates. I don’t feel like I did anything special. I’m trying to get better and trying to learn from my mistakes.”

The Bears are 5-10 this season, and will close out their season this Sunday with a tough road game against the Minnesota Vikings–a team boasting the second ranked defense in the NFL in both points and yards allowed.
