Former UNC standout Lucy Bronze was selected Monday to England’s roster for the upcoming 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, becoming the seventh Tar Heel alumnus to earn a spot in the event.

Bronze played at UNC during the 2009 season and helped lead the Tar Heels to a national championship that year.

She has been a member of the English national team since 2013 and has scored six goals in 66 appearances, primarily at right back. This includes being named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2015 Women’s World Cup, an event in which she scored a goal in her team’s 2-1 victory over Canada.

Bronze joins New Zealand’s Katie Bowen as former Tar Heels selected to play for countries other than the United States in the World Cup this year.

The U.S. National Team previously chose Crystal Dunn, Jessica McDonald, Ashlyn Harris, Allie Long and Tobin Heath to its roster last week.

UNC’s 2009 title team included Bronze, McDonald, Heath and Harris.

This year’s World Cup will be held in France and begins on June 11.
