After a 2-0 week for her team in which she averaged 22 points per game, UNC sophomore guard Deja Kelly was named the ACC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Monday. It’s the first time she has earned the honor.

Kelly scored 18 points Thursday evening in an upset over No. 3 Louisville in Carmichael Arena. Her final two points came on a mid-range jumper with under a minute remaining which gave Carolina the lead. She improved on that output Sunday in a win at Florida State, pouring in 26 for the Tar Heels on 9-15 shooting. Kelly also totaled eight rebounds, six assists and four steals between the two games. She played 78 of a possible 80 minutes, including all 40 against the Seminoles.

Kelly leads the Tar Heels in scoring (16.3 points per game) and minutes (31.1 per game). She leads the entire conference in free throw percentage (86.3). Last season, she was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team and the All-Academic Team, as well as ACC Freshman of the Week twice.

Kelly and the Tar Heels will be on the road again Thursday night at Virginia before returning to Carmichael Arena for Senior Day and the regular-season finale Sunday afternoon against Duke.
