Micah Ojo, who ESPN rates as a five-star prospect and the No. 6 overall recruit in the 2027 class, announced her commitment to head coach Courtney Banghart and UNC Thursday. Ojo also held offers from Duke and Vanderbilt.

A 6-foot-1 wing originally from Virginia Beach, Ojo is described by ESPN as “one of the most versatile prospects in the class on both ends.” Last season with Princess Anne High School, Ojo averaged 16.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 2.6 blocks per game while leading Princess Anne to a perfect season and a state title, its fourth in a row. She was named the 2025-26 Gatorade Virginia Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

Internationally, Ojo won gold medals with Team USA at the 2025 FIBA U16 AmeriCup and the FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup. She averaged 11 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game at the World Cup while shooting 42.9 percent on three-pointers.

In a statement to ESPN, Ojo called UNC “the perfect fit.”

“They’ve done an incredible job showing us what makes UNC so special, not just as a program, but as a community,” Ojo said. “The sense of family and pride throughout Chapel Hill is something I am incredibly excited to be a part of.”

The 2027 recruiting cycle marks the third in a row in which UNC has earned a commitment from a five-star prospect. Nyla Brooks, who ESPN ranked as the No. 13 overall recruit in her class, joined the team in 2025, and No. 4 overall recruit Kate Harpring is joining in 2026.

The 2025-26 Tar Heels will take the court for the first time Sunday, Oct. 18 against Davidson in a preseason exhibition at Carmichael Arena. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
