UNC baseball got overwhelmed by Virginia on Sunday, losing 10-3 as the Cavaliers completed a sweep in Charlottesville.

The Diamond Heels saw its pitching falter again, as Virginia plated eight runs in the game’s first three innings and totaled 16 hits across all nine frames. Junior right-hander Kyle Mott made his first career start for Carolina, but only managed 1.1 innings.

Sunday’s game followed a loss in extra innings for the Heels on Saturday, as Virginia used a walk-off, two-out grand slam to win 11-7. Friday’s loss was a tighter match, with UNC’s bullpen giving up two late runs for the Cavaliers to win 4-2.

This weekend marks the second time this season the Diamond Heels have been swept. After an 18-3 start to the year, Carolina has now lost 14 of its last 19 games.

During this skid, two Tar Heels have been able to keep up their offense: shortstop Danny Serretti and first baseman Hunter Stokely. With a double in the third inning on Sunday, Serretti extended his career-long hitting streak to 14 games. Stokely also improved his own career-long hitting streak, bringing it to eight games with a single in the second inning.

Next up, UNC returns to the friendly confines of Boshamer Stadium as the Diamond Heels will host Liberty on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
